Saudi Arabic Coffee Cups

In Saudi Arabia, coffee isn't just a drink — it's a national symbol. Gahwa saudiyya (قهوة سعودية) is served at every gathering, from royal majlis to family diwan, in small finjan cups that have remained unchanged for centuries. Our cups honor that tradition.

Coffee Traditions

Saudi coffee is distinctively light in color, brewed from lightly roasted beans with heavy cardamom and sometimes saffron or cloves. It's served from a brass or silver dallah, poured with the left hand while the right hand holds a stack of cups. The host serves the most honored guest first, pouring just enough to cover the bottom of the cup — a full cup would signal the guest should leave. Guests shake the cup side to side when they've had enough.

The Cup Style

Saudi finjans are typically plain white or adorned with gold accents — understated elegance that reflects the Gulf aesthetic. The 80ml size is standard. Our Classic 80ml and Premium Gold Accent 100ml cups both fit beautifully in the Saudi coffee tradition.

FAQ

What size cup is used in Saudi Arabia?

The standard Saudi finjan is approximately 80ml — matching our Classic cup perfectly. Coffee is poured in small amounts, filling only about one-third of the cup.

Why is Saudi coffee so light in color?

Saudi gahwa uses very lightly roasted beans — sometimes barely past green — which produces a lighter, more aromatic brew than dark-roasted Turkish or Western coffee.
